Farm Update…

As the weather warms, the brown turns into green. It’s beautiful to see the transition and welcome all the veggie babies to the world. I swear, it never gets old, and I am always in awe watching a tiny seed become an adult veggie.
After the accident last week, I found myself in the garden doing the most basic tasks. On the farm, there are two kinds of jobs… Big projects and simple maintenance tasks.
The big projects, like laying landscape fabric or building a structure, take brain power and mental energy. You have to think, plan, gather materials, sketch, seek advice from experienced friends, fix mistakes along the way, and so on…
The so-called “boring” tasks are seriously my favorite. Weeding, mowing, clipping old leaves… For me, because the task is repetitive and simple, they are meditative. No thought is needed, just a motion of hands that is already so familiar.
And so, I put myself in a recovery mode this past week and spent time on my hands and knees, close to the soil, between the rows, literally in the plants. Soaking up the gentle sun, humming or having a conversation with a carrot (sometimes I think that if a non-farmer hears me, they’ll call the loony police to come and take me 😆).
It’s medicine for the soul. The old-fashioned way. Close to God, in his domain.
New Veggies…

We got some beautiful new veggies joining us this week! The first harvest of carrots, the first harvest of sweet peas, beets (which I already harvested a bit last week), and some new potatoes! I am very excited to share these with you.
Birdies…

So many of you bought a birdhouse from us this spring, and I am so glad to hear that some of the houses have happy tannets in them! It is fascinating and so precious to see birds find these houses a safe place to lay their eggs.
These houses are handmade by Bert Zimmerman. Bert is a veteran who served for 24 years. His dad used to make birdhouses. Last year, he had to take down a few birdhouses while redoing the roof on his dad’s old shop.
The birdhouses were old and falling apart, so he built new ones. and then some more…
As a frequent visitor to “the shack” (his dad’s old shop, which is full of food, which is why I’m a frequent visitor 😏), I had to grab a few and bring them to market with me. I knew that you’d appreciate them!
If you bought a birdhouse and it is now a home to a birdie family, I’d love it if you send me a picture!
Also, this red farm-style gorgeous thing in the last picture is a birdhouse-bird feeder combination. The house is at the top, and the tray is where you’ll put food. It’s hard for me to carry it to market, but it is available for sale for $97.50. If you are interested, please let me know. Take into consideration that it has to be mounted on a post or some sort of flat surface.
Strawberry Jalapeno Jam…
It’s almost the end of strawberry season! Before it ends, make sure to make this delicious strawberry jalapeno jam. There is just something about the kick of the spicy peppers that takes a strawberry jam to the next level! It’s not overpowering, but simply delicious.

If you are new here…
Welcome!
Hi friends! I am so excited that you are all here on this email list so I can communicate with you directly. I am going to try to send one email a week with farm and market updates.
This email list is powered by Substack. If you’ve never heard of it, Substack is a platform that combines social media, podcasting, video production, writing, and email communication without being dependent on an algorithm.
It helps us, content creators and business owners, create content and deliver it to you directly. If you are in my space, we can communicate without a robot between us. Yay!
It also helps us get support from the community. This email list is completely free; however, many people ask me how they can support the farm. Substack offers a paid membership option as well. You can learn more about it by clicking the button below:
That’s it for now, friends! Thanks for your support. See you at the markets.
